Opportunity to have a work of art in your home! In partnership with As Leiloeiras.
The little chairs that are part of LAR’s history are given new life by invited artists.
Pieces that have been part of thousands of children’s journeys are now transformed into works of art that make room for many more stories.

Inspired by Campo Clone—an imaginary city in Rio—this small chair invites us to reflect on the nature of access. It speaks not only of access via streets, avenues, and paths, but also of the connections between us—invisible crossings we open or close, allowing others to draw near with distinct experiences and realities that can touch and educate us.
How many barriers do we build, often without realizing it? How many others arise from the fears we share or the distances we learn to look away from? Yet, every path can find a crack of light; every point of access can discover a new doorway.
Clad in “school green” Formica, the piece draws us into the realm of education and poses a delicate yet essential question: who in our society truly has the opportunity to learn, imagine, and transform?
Perhaps this is the work’s most beautiful gesture: reminding us that access does not always come through the doors we know, but rather through the pathways of the imagination.

Amidst screens and the rush, a pause.
More than just a chair, it is an invitation to slow down and ask yourself: what has been taking up space on your journey? What has been etched into your mind’s eye? As the day draws to a close and the body calls for rest, a voice whispers a reminder that rest, too, is born of contemplation—a repose in the present moment that becomes a conscious pause. Yet, were this a product, its label would read: this seemingly still moment also holds action. It holds time, a temple, and action. Contemplation.

The playful universe of childhood—just as we would wish every childhood to be: a place of dreams, colors, and joy. Affectionately dubbed “Chair Play” by the artist, this is an interactive work that the public is invited to touch. Clouds turn into castles, pebbles become treasures… a place where “make-believe” can also color our existence.

Some say that friends are angels in our lives. But how often do they also reveal themselves in the form of a stranger at a restaurant who points out the jacket we left behind? Or that driver who stops traffic to let us pass on a chaotic day? Or even the person who crosses our path, with no way for us to imagine the immense impact that encounter would bring?
They exist in small gestures: in the clothes that no longer fit us but shield someone in need from the cold; in the donation that writes new chapters in someone’s story; in an unexpected act of kindness, an accepted invitation, a comforting hug, or a phone call that comes at just the right moment. Often, amidst the labyrinth of a heavy heart, they simply appear—and in the embrace of that encounter, we are reminded of the tenderest truth: perhaps we were never truly alone.

The word comes from the Latin *ludus*, meaning game or play.
Yet, it goes far beyond that: it represents our essential need to have fun, imagine, and create—a need that applies to all ages. The concept of play is not limited to toys or rules; it encompasses any activity that sparks pleasure, curiosity, and spontaneous engagement, allowing us to express emotions and interact with the world in a more vibrant way.
This little chair is an invitation to make room for pleasure, lightness, and curiosity in our daily lives—moving away from viewing life merely as a list of rigid obligations.
A case in point is Rubem Alves’s observation: “A book is a toy made of letters. Reading is play.” So, here is the invitation: What part of your day could use a little more playfulness today?

To open one’s arms,
to recall the embraces.
To let what matters
exist,
become a home—
despite the wind, despite the passage of time.
Wherever the heart seeks rest:
to allow oneself to go,
to build,
to fly,
to return,
to stay,
to feel.

It all began with sketches made on a bus ticket during college. What started as a playful pastime soon found a home on napkins—fragile, everyday, ephemeral surfaces that the artist transformed into a realm of permanence. Created between appointments—in those fleeting moments of silence, waiting, and transit—these sketches reveal a perspective that uncovers invisible geometries and subtle beauty within the ordinary. It is with this same poetic spirit that this little chair embraces us, inviting us to soften our gaze—both outward and inward. Like a traveler dancing along their own path—curious about the world around them yet deeply attuned to their inner self—it serves as a precious passport for traversing other worlds and awakening new possibilities.

Who hasn’t seen a little yellow house around the city? Amid poetics, phrases and words that sound like puns, this little chair resonates like an echo of so many painted walls. Colors that cross the stone jungle in a solid and consistent chorus for those who are willing to look closely, to see the truth, to truly see. “It’s life asking for space, kindness and so many other human urgencies — things that we only find when we decide to look with an open heart.”

Giant by its very nature: origins, a unique sway, and diversity. “Our woods teem with more life; our lives, within your embrace, hold more love.” How often do we take the time to honor what is truly ours—what originates right here? A local business, a homegrown creation, a national artist, or that authentic, soulful food. The pride of being “Made in Brazil.” Caramel, Bossa Nova, the Amazon—but also street markets, rice and beans, samba circles, and *altinha* (beach kick-ups). Being enchanted by our beauty and our daily bounty nourishes the soul; it sustains us and inspires admiration, care, and protection, ensuring that this “Golden Land”—amidst the children of this soil—may remain a gentle mother, flourish, and be loved: Brazil.

While our ancestors left us objects crafted by hand—often bearing drawings, paintings, and other artistic touches—we will leave our descendants heaps of colorful plastic, churned out in absurd quantities by machines. It is a chaotic profusion of objects that, in the future, might reveal how we lived, what we desired, what we valued, and what mattered to us. An immense volume of traces, produced and discarded on an unprecedented scale. Studying the humans of our era may prove complex; while the traces will be plentiful, finding what truly represents us amidst them could be difficult. It is from this line of inquiry that *Um lugar para escavar e refletir* (A Place to Excavate and Reflect) emerges. The little chair invites an archaeological perspective on the present, transforming everyday objects, industrial materials, and waste into the vestiges of a civilization defined by excess, consumption, and disposability. Here, excavation also means seeking meaning within layers of matter, memory, and time. What seems mundane today could, in the future, become a historical record. This little chair serves as a site of investigation, inviting us to consider not only what our descendants will find, but what we are choosing to leave behind for them. Amidst so many options, it will be hard for them to discover what truly represents us.

This work is part of the “Primordial Garden” series, in which the artist brings together plants associated with the sacred. The choice of material and the color blue evokes the tradition of Portuguese *azulejos* (glazed tiles), incorporating a visual memory—also imbued with faith—into the piece. For this work, Oizumi selects plant species mentioned in the Bible, rich in stories of blessing and symbols that endure through time. Each plant is a small fragment of prayer. And the chair—once a place of welcome—is now a place of cultivation. “A place where memory and the sacred meet, and where what time has preserved blossoms like a long, delicate prayer.”

*The Name of Things: Dialogue* is a collaborative series created by a mother and son that brings together painting and crochet, color and texture, city and memory. Michel CENA7 is an artist, poet, and educator active in the ABC Paulista region; his work is defined by color, urban culture, and the Constructivist tradition. Raquel Ramalho develops an artistic language rooted in handcraft, yarns, textures, and knowledge passed down through generations. In this series, their artistic languages intersect to build a shared territory where gesture, material, and memory belong to both. A chair created by the mother and son—an invitation to linger, listen, and share—gives physical form to this encounter.

Before maps and screens, our ancestors looked to the sky for orientation. Stars, the moon, and planets guided their paths, marked the passage of time, heralded the seasons, and inspired stories. Today, we often forget that the sky is not merely a landscape or a backdrop. It is nature, too. The cosmos is also part of the world we inhabit. This chair embodies that simple, ancient act: looking upward, broadening our gaze, and remembering our connection to what lies above us.
